1-1 Basic Shima Programming Day

from £300.00

Join me for a full day in the studio to learn some basic programming on the Apex software and knit out on the Shima machine.

During this 6 hours working day (with an hours break for lunch) we will explore either the basic programming of the Shima to explore basic samples and techniques, similar to those worked on the hand machine, or garment design and development (please select from the drop down menu). Tailoring to your needs as a knitter, we will work through areas of your specialism or interest.

This could be development for your graduate collection, start up brand, or development of your own personal practice within knitted textiles and garments.

Within the basic programming, swatches will include Jacquards, ribs, links process structures, cable patterns and tuck patterns.

For more manual days we can cover manual programming including Partial Knit and basic PAK file programming.

Creating garments will be worked through the automatics of the Apex software. We will begin by developing the Jacquard or structure you wish to have included in the garment and knitting out a swatch prior to taking a tension and calculating the measurements for the garment. I will then program the files which we can knit out and you can then help me link the garment together.

Garments will be worked with basic blocks I have drawn up, therefore garment styles are limited to Jumpers or Vest options. To develop your own garment pattern, please contact as additional time may be needed.

100% wool yarns will be included within the days workshop. Any garments that are not finished by the end of the day will be finished by myself and sent back to you via post for no additional cost.

Once purchased I will contact you via email to confirm the date is booked, give you directions to the unit and further contact details.
