Learn to Machine Knit
Join me in person in the studio or online for a private lesson on the domestic hand machine.
Within this time, we can develop your existing knowledge and explore further techniques, get comfortable with the basics on the machine, or develop garments and products that you may be working on for your graduate collection, a start up knitting business, or purely to indulge in the craft.
I have both Silver Reed and Brother machines to work from as well as DesignaKnit to program and knit out Fair Isle and Jacquard knits and structures.
Some lesson plan ideas:
Basic Machine Knitting
Learn the basics of the machine and get comfortable with casting-on and casting-off. We will cover the use of the transfer tool and the stitch structure.
Work with different yarns and explore their properties
Partial Knit
Learn the basics of partial knit and its potential for form making and shape creation.
Create shape outside of the basics and work with colour to create pattern in texture.
Basic Garment Making
Learn the basics to garment making, from pattern cutting through to calculations from your sample into the final garment.
Learn about trims and finishes to make your garment as sophisticated as possible.
Basics in Punchcards
Learn how punchcards work with the machine, whether Fair Isle, tuck stitches, slip stitches, or woven patterns.
Work with a variety of different yarns that give textures, form and structure to the material.
Double Bed Knitting
Work with the ribber attachment and have an introduction into ribs and double bed materials.
Learn the operation of the ribber attachment alongside the main bed to create trims and finshings.
Please choose from the drop down the amount of time you wish to book, whether a couple of hours, a half day or a full day.
Please also contact me prior to booking to confirm a date and time.
